Kurnool District Collector P. Ranjth Basha on Saturday (May 3) inaugurated 30 new beds donated to the cardiology department of the Government General Hospital, Kurnool. They were donated by Vijay Krishna Reddy, son of former head of the department of cardiology Ramakrishna Reddy, at a cost of ₹10 lakh.
On the occasion, the Collector interacted with the patients who underwent surgeries at the cardiology department and enquired about the treatment given to them.
Cardiology department head Chandrasekhar apprised the Collector of the services offered by the department. Dr. Chandrasekhar also showed him the angiogram surgery that was being performed at the Cath lab on a monitor.
Later in the day, the Collector felicitated Dr. Chandrasekhar, who has been appointed the vice-chancellor of NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS). Mr. Ranjith Basha said it was the services rendered by the senior doctor that earned him the post. The Collector said Dr. Chandrasekhar is the first person from Rayalaseema to be appointed vice-chancellor of the university.
Mr. Ranjith Basha expressed hope that the appointment of Dr. Chandrasekhar as vice-chancellor of NTRUHS would benefit the Kurnool Medical College and the GGH.
Dr. Chandrasekhar recalled that he pursued his Intermediate in Kurnool district, studied medicine in the Kurnool Medical College, worked at the cardiology department for 20 years and also served as the GGH superintendent. He said there are 17 government and 19 private medical colleges in the State, and he would prepare an action plan for their development after visiting them.
During his visit to the GGH, the Collector also visited the persons injured in the road accident that occurred at Bairluty in Nandyal district on Friday and were being treated at the hospital. Four devotees from Adoni had died and several others sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident while returning from Srisailam.
Mr. Ranjith Basha interacted with the injured being treated in men’s and women’s ward and promised them the best medical care.
