The New York Mets, as they so often have this season, stepped up on both sides of the ball in their 9-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night. The Mets (22-11) tallied 17 hits, with two of them homers by Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso. Meanwhile, the bullpen pitched a shutout in three innings to secure Clay Holmes’ (4-1) victory.
Nimmo had one of his best games of the season, finishing 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. The 32-year-old’s 407-foot solo homer to right center in the seventh inning brought the score to 7-3.
New York manager Carlos Mendoza was relieved for Nimmo after the game, via SNY.
“He’s been locked in. Again, a good hitter that finally is getting results. I don’t think he’s doing anything differently…Not surprised by it.”
Nimmo is now slashing .229/.279/.441 with seven homers and 22 RBI on the season.

The Mets selected the 6-foot-2-inch, 206-pounder No. 13 overall in the 2011 MLB Draft at 18 years old. The Wyoming native worked his way up the minors before making his big-league debut in 2016. His first full season was 2018, when he slashed .263/.404/.483 with 17 homers and 47 RBI in 140 games.
Nimmo led the NL with seven triples in 2022 and also smashed a career-high 24 homers that year. He owns a career slash line of .229/.279/.441 with 116 homers and 392 RBI.
New York has two more games left in its series with the Cardinals (14-19) before facing the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road.
