Chennai:AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami urged his party leaders not to criticize Vijay, the founder president of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, even as the party cadre geared up to face the 2026 Assembly elections with gusto.
Speaking at the party’s executive committee meeting on Friday, Palaniswami is said to have told the functionaries that their only goal was to defeat the DMK and that the AIADMK would never compromise on its basic ideology and would always fight for the rights of the minorities.
He said that the AIADMK lost the 2021 Assembly polls narrowly with just a difference of two lakh votes and hence it was easy for the party workers to put up a bold fight and regain the party’s glory in 2026.
The DMK was against the party aligning with the BJP and was trying its best to thwart any attempt, he said adding that because of that he had to forge the alliance in secret without revealing his plans to anyone.
Urging the cadre to not give up or get bogged down by any setbacks, he told the party functionaries that victory was sure to come their way if they worked hard.
Meanwhile, BJP national president J P Nadda met his party State leaders in Chennai on Saturday and discussed issues relating to the coming elections. He told the leaders not to discuss anything about alliances as the high command would take decisions in it.
