Bike no.2 RD 125 finally comes home:
After 19 years baby RD finally comes home on its own feet. Being patient and keeping hope alive for so long was never an easy task but then things only happen when they are destined too. My first ride on the streets to the RTO office was not a smooth one and we knew the carbs are difficult to tune especially since they are so old and the engine is so tiny. So, the next best alternative was to put on RX 100 carbs and those were not so easy to tune as well as the stock RX carb’s jetting was too big for this small engine and was on the richer side. So, the main jet especially had to be used from the original carb and then we had to try various combinations and testing to finally arrive at the desired tuning. Unlike the RD 200 which is ported and delivers its power very violently from as low as 3.5k rpm the RD 125 needs to be revved up and really comes to life after 4k rpm but since we are in the running period the rpms have to be maintained below that.
Now, I have to try and add up the miles in the coming days to understand the engine better and for the tune up to settle down before making any further changes as desired…
Some pictures…
The RX carbs fitted on the stock air box manifolds which had to be heated and expanded to fit on the carbs.

They were however long hence they would collapse so had to be cut short for a better fitment

The RX carb

The other side. At leat now I have access to the choke which had to be blocked on the original one

What a beautiful colour
