Hyderabad: Two reservoirs built at Osmannagar in Patancheru constituency are ready to supply clean drinking water to colonies, gated communities and villages. These reservoirs are part of the ORR Phase-2 project taken up by the HMWS&SB. Built at a cost of Rs.30 crore, they are expected to benefit around 1 lakh people. So far 22 km of water pipelines have been laid and 55 bulk connections planned.

Board MD Ashok Reddy visited the site on Tuesday to check the final works. He said the two reservoirs, one of 4 million litres and the other of 2 million litres, would supply Tellapur municipality. The construction and pipeline work have been completed and a trial run was successful.

These reservoirs are being made into a model project because of the use of new technology and solar power. Smart valves are being installed on the pipelines, which can be operated using a mobile app. This means field staff won’t need to manually open or close valves. The smart system can also check water quality, quantity and chlorine levels. The entire setup runs on solar power and has backup batteries to avoid power issues.

A water audit is being done to track every water being sent from the reservoirs. Flow meters are used to match the readings from the reservoir to the final consumer. This will help identify and stop wastage. Officials have also set up an online system that gives alerts if chlorine levels drop.

Ashok Reddy has directed that solar lights to used for lighting around the reservoir and borewell water should be used for gardening using drip irrigation. He also asked officials to beautify the area and put signboards with project details, display water saving messages on the compound wall and put CCTV cameras.
