Kollywood star director Karthik Subbaraj’s recent outing Retro, spearheaded by Suriya, started on a good note at the box office. However, it dropped big due to mixed reviews and word of mouth. Movie-buffs are bashing Karthik Subbaraj for the way he handled the second half. The movie will end up as one more flop in Suriya’s career.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Karthik Subbaraj revealed that he has been planning to make an independent film for a long time. He said, “After Jigarthanda DoubleX, I thought of making an independent film. I want to send it to film festivals and release it a year later in cinema halls.”
Karthik Subbaraj added, “The script is ready for it, but then Retro happened. I want to tell a story without worrying about box office performance. In the case of Retro, I had a responsibility. It involved a huge budget and a star hero. My independent film will be made on a small budget with new artists. It doesn’t need known faces. I want to show the other side of me. I don’t know when it will start, though.”
