Officials from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) conducted raids across the state on Monday, uncovering serious violations at 66 pharmacies. The inspections were part of a special drive aimed at ensuring compliance with drug safety regulations in private healthcare institutions.
During the raids, officials discovered widespread irregularities, including the sale of prescription medicines without the presence of a registered pharmacist, missing sales and purchase records, and improper maintenance of prescription and Schedule H1 drug registers. In several cases, drugs were being sold without valid prescriptions, expired medicines were found stocked alongside saleable drugs, and thermolabile drugs were not stored under the required conditions.
At Remedy Hospital in Kukatpally, the DCA seized Biopro PRP Kits worth ₹70,000. The packaging of the kits, manufactured by Alchem Diagnostics, Coimbatore, was found to have serious labelling violations, two different manufacturing dates on the same batch, discrepancies in sterilisation process labels, and a missing manufacturing license number. The hospital pharmacy also failed to provide purchase and sale invoices for the kits, said a release.
In another case, physician’s samples were found stocked with commercial drugs at Life Care Pharmacy in Medak. Meanwhile, a banned medicine named Sugatab MV2 Forte was found at the pharmacy attached to Gemcare Poulomi Hospitals in A.S. Rao Nagar, Hyderabad.
The DCA has announced that show-cause notices will be issued to all 66 pharmacies and that appropriate legal action will be taken under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
