Civil defence drills at four locations in Hyderabad today
Hyderabad will conduct civil defence drills at four locations

HYDERABAD: Civil defence mock drills will be conducted in four locations in Hyderabad Wednesday in accordance with the instructions from the ministry of home affairs. A full-scale mock drill involving police, fire services, and a disaster response force would be organised in the four locations. ‘Air raid’ sirens will be activated at 4 pm (Incoming Air Raid) within Outer Ring Road (ORR) and there will be another activation of sirens at 4.30 pm to close the mock drill. The measures to be taken during the mock drills include the operationalisation of air-raid warning sirens, training civilians on civil-defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a “hostile attack.”DRILL TIME: 4pm TO 4.30pm

  • Sirens will be activated citywide to simulate air raid
  • Industrial sirens, police public address systems, fire engine sirens, and patrol vehicles to sound alert

At 4.15 pm

  • Integrated Command and Control Centre will simulate impact reports of air raids at four locations in city
  • Emergency services to be deployed to these sites by 4.20 pm

  • Police teams to secure areas, assist in crowd control, and facilitate rescue ops
  • Fire, rescue services to conduct simulated firefighting and search ops
  • Disaster Response Forces to clear debris and assist in casualty evacuation
  • Hyderabad is among 244 districts across the country that have been identified as vulnerable by Central govt
  • 12 civil defence services, including police, fire and rescue, medical, industrial and municipal depts, to take part in the mock drill
  • Sources say the mock drill is likely to be restricted to four locations within the premises of defence establishments

RESPONSE EXPECTED FROM PUBLIC:

  • Upon hearing air raid siren, seek immediate shelter
  • Turn off electrical and gas appliances, and remain indoors until further instructions
  • Track only official live sources for updates and do not spread unverified information
