Every single year for the last 3 to 4 years, there have been several discussions and debates about the imminent retirement of Mahendra Singh Dhoni from IPL. He has managed to successfully negotiate these retirement talks for the last few years, but it is becoming increasingly prevalent now.
After last night game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Dhoni was again asked the age old question about his retirement and he had a descriptive answer for the same.
“I’m 43 and I have played for a long time. They don’t know when it will be my last year, it is a fact I play only 2 months a year. This IPL gets over, then I have to work to see if my body is able to take this kind of pressure. Nothing to decide as of now, but the love and affection I get everywhere is excellent.” Dhoni stated.
Dhoni did not necessarily confirm whether he would be actually available for the next season, nor did he hint about his retirement. He mentioned that he needs to listen to his body and focus on his recovery and game fitness.
It is a fact that Dhoni has around 10 months to prepare for the two months of IPL season. But this is more about his contribution to the team than his physical availability. It can be noted that a section of CSK fans are calling for Dhoni’s retirement as he is struggling on field and the team can accommodate a future player in this position if need be.
