Visakhapatnam: With the central government launching Operation Sindoor, residents across north Andhra are closely monitoring updates from the border regions. From Srikakulam to the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, people are tuning into television broadcasts, newspapers and social media platforms to stay informed about the latest developments.

Many families in rural areas have at least one member serving in the armed forces, and stationed along the borders. Dunna Janakiram, a former sarpanch living in Donkur village of Burjupadu panchayat in Ichchapuram mandal, called Deccan Chronicle to inquire about the situation on the Indo-Pak border.

The elder resident expresses concern and pride over movements near the Indo-Pak border. “We arranged the marriage of Togi Laxman, who is currently stationed at the border. Ullapatu Shobhan Babu is also posted there, and Dunna Pradeep is serving in Ladakh. While I feel sad thinking about them, I am also proud that they are defending the country,” said the former village sarpanch.

On Wednesday, youth actively engaged in civil mock drills conducted in various locations in Visakhapatnam. M. Karthik, a second-year intermediate student who observed the exercises, commented, “I am against war. But if Pakistan provokes, I will fight with all my heart.”

Ninth-grade student U. Shiva shared his thoughts, reflecting on the recent terror attacks, “I have seen children like me who lost their fathers in the Pahalgam attack. I believe Operation Sindoor is being conducted to deliver justice for them.”

The younger children too are realising the seriousness of the situation. Six-year-old N. Sandeep, who attended a civil mock drill holding his mother Lakshmi’s hand, watched in confusion as emergency responders demonstrated evacuation measures. “I see injured people being taken to the hospital, and some are hiding under tables. I don’t understand what is happening when I see all of this. But I know something is happening to our army jawans,” he remarked.

As uncertainty looms, residents are taking precautionary steps. “I have bought the necessary medicines in advance. Prices will rise if war happens, but what can we do? The Indian Army has taken the initiative to teach Pakistan a lesson. I will always stand by our soldiers,” stated 55-year-old Anganwadi worker K.V. Ramanamma.
