The Kurnool district and sessions court on Thursday sentenced 11 persons to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 on each, in a double murder case. They were convicted for the killing of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Kangati Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, popularly known as Cherukulapadu Narayana Reddy and his associate in 2017.
The deceased was having a faction feud with others and on May 21, 2017, his rivals attacked him near Ramakrishnapuram in Krishnagiri mandal while returning from a marriage at Nandyal. The accused waylaid and rammed the car in which the deceased was travelling with a tractor at high speed.
As the car came to a halt, the accused hurled crude bombs at the car and attacked the inmates with hunting sickles. Narayana Reddy and his associate were killed in the process. Krishnagiri police registered a case against 29 persons, including some present ruling party leaders and their associates, from different villages in Krishnagiri and Veldurthi mandals.
Kurnool District Judge G. Kabarthi on Thursday delivered the verdict convicting 11 of them to life imprisonment. The convicted persons are Beesannagari Ramanjineyulu and Kothula Ramanaidu of Cherukulapadu village in Veldurthy mandal; Kalleva Ramakrishna of Kosanapalli village in Veldurthy mandal; Kothula Balu, Kothula Chinna Yellappa, Kothula Pedda Yellappa, Gantala Venkataramudu, and Gantala Seenu of Thogarchedu village in Krishnagiri mandal; and Beesannagari Ramanjineyulu, Beesannagari Ramanjineyulu, and Beesannagari Pedda Beesanna of Cherukulapadu village in Veludrthy mandal. The convicted were shifted to Kadapa Central Jail amid tight security.
