Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Manthani have decided to collaborate for launching an upskilling programme to equip final-year students and fresh graduates with skills required for entry-level IT positions.

In the pilot phase, 100 students are to be enrolled. They will undergo a 20-week immersive training programme designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The focus will be on building core technical competencies as well as essential soft skills.

Additionally, the programme offers placement support through TCS iON’s recruitment platform, connecting eligible graduates with job opportunities, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu’s office said after he inaugurated the TCS iON Placement Success Programme (PSP).

JNTU Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor T. Kishan Kumar Reddy and Business Head-Skill Education of TCS iON Smriti Mulye signed an MoU in the presence of the Minister, it said.

Less than half of the graduates are prepared for the demands of the job market, Mr. Sridhar Babu said, citing the drop in employability among Indian youth from 44.3% in 2023 to 42.6% in 2024. This in turn impacts students, educational institutions, industries and the government.

“In Manthani, we are taking action to change this. With the TCS iON PSP in collaboration with JNTU Manthani, we are not just educating our youth, we are making them job-ready,” he said in a release on Thursday.

The collaboration with JNTU Manthani is bound to “empower job seekers with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in today’s competitive job market,” Global Head of TCS iON Venguswamy Ramaswamy.
