Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Hafiz Babanagar in Kanchanbagh on Wednesday following a demolition drive by HYDRAA against alleged encroachments. The police had to resort to a lathicharge to disperse the public.
The HYDRAA teams assisted by the local police reached the Balapur road on Wednesday morning to remove some encroachments when local people gathered in large numbers and staged a protest.
The protesters laid siege to the bulldozers and tried to prevent the HYDRAA teams from carrying out demolitions claiming that they were conducting businesses in the shops for a long time.
The protestant claimed that the officials did not serve any notice and snatched away their livelihoods selectively.
The police along with the DRF personnel physically lifted the people and bundled them into buses and shifted them to the police station. A group of women also descended at the scene and raised slogans against HYDRAA.
The local public representatives including AIMIM party leaders condemned the highhandedness and over enthusiasm of HYDRAA personnel who they alleged manhandled the local businessmen who tried to stop demolitions.
