T min promises fast-track work on Warangal airport | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: Telangana’s Mamnoor airport in Warangal district received central govt approval for commercial flights. Operational during Nizam era, it has been defunct for decades. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced the approval on Friday.
In his letter to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Mamnoor airport, Union civil aviation secretary Amit Kumar Jha said: “The NOC is applicable only for Mamnoor airport and not to be considered as a precedent to subsequent plans to develop any other airports by the AAI or govt of Telangana and as may get covered under clause 5.2 of the concession of HIAL.”
CM Revanth thanks PM Modi for airport nod
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said he had met civil aviation minister K Ram Mohan Naidu and urged him to expedite the approval for Mamnoor airport as the govt had already released money for land acquisition. The CM later thanked PM Narendra Modi on X saying: “hank you PM Narendra Modi and looking forward for cooperation for the development of Telangana state.”
Airport will cater to small aircraft in phase-I: Min
Venkat Reddy said the work will be speeded up. In the first phase, it will cater to small aircraft for regional and inter-state operations. In the second phase, it will be operating round-the-clock international flights using large planes such as A320 and B737 and cargo planes, he added. Roads and buildings special chief secretary Vikas Raj told TOI: “Already, collectors have completed most of the land acquisition. On our part, we will try to provide connecting roads, electricity, water supply and all facilities to make the airport commercially operational. Construction of the runway, airport terminal and air traffic control tower will be speeded up in coordination with AAI and permissions from the Director General of Civil Aviation.”
The state govt had earlier issued a GO for acquisition of 256 acres, allocating Rs 205 crore for the purpose. Mamnoor airport already possesses 696 acres.
