Hyderabad: Over two dozen clinics and hospitals in Sangareddy district were inspected this week after multiple complaints surfaced about unqualified individuals practising modern medicine and endangering public health. The Telangana State Medical Council (TGMC), under the guidance of its chairman Dr Mahesh Kumar, led a special operation to crack down on the illegal practice.
The inspections were carried out in areas such as Old Bus Stand, Malkapur, Isnapur, Sadasivpet, Konkole, Doulthabad, Narsapur, and Zaheerabad, where nearly 25 private clinics and hospitals were examined by five inspection teams. In several establishments, individuals holding degrees like BAMS, BHMS, and D.Pharm — who are not legally authorised to practise modern medicine — were found treating patients, prescribing painkillers, and administering steroids.
Officials noted that such practices not only violate legal norms but also pose a severe risk to public health. Some hospitals were also found to be operating without valid licences.
TGMC vice-chairman Dr G. Srinivas, ethics committee chairperson Dr Kiran Kumar, and members Dr Anand, Dr Vishnu, Dr Sunny Davis, Dr Rajeev, Dr Harika, and Dr Sireesh took part in the inspections. They were joined by Indian Medical Association members, including Dr Chakrapani and Dr Harikumar Goud. The Medical Council described these violations as serious offences under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act.
Officials said a detailed report will be submitted to the district collector and the District Medical and Health Officer. The Medical Council has also recommended that hospitals functioning without proper registration be seized, and it has begun the process to lodge FIRs against the unauthorised practitioners. Further legal steps will be taken as per established procedure.
