Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) official spokesperson Chanagani Dayakar on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, requesting steps to ensure an increase in IIT seat allocation for Telangana students and the establishment of new IITs in the State. He noted that IIMs are established in 26 States and highlighted the need for special care and responsibility towards Telangana’s students.

Welcoming the Central government’s recent decision to expand IITs in Tirupati, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka with an outlay of ₹11,828.79 crore, the Congress leader stressed that IIT Hyderabad, established in 2008, had secured good ranks at the national level and requested the Central government to further enhance its reputation. He underscored the need for expansion of IIT Hyderabad, with additional 590 seats.

The memorandum emphasised Telangana’s rapid strides in technological advancement and education. With 10 lakh students applying for Degree and engineering courses annually and two lakh students from Telangana applying for JEE Mains, Mr. Dayakar stressed the need for increased opportunities.

Mr. Dayakar requested the establishment of new IITs and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in Telangana, citing the benefits for students.

The memorandum urged the Central government to consider the future of students in Telangana and allocate more seats in IITs, given the State’s favourable environment for education, medicine and industry.
