Charminar, Laad Bazaar To Get A Makeover

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s iconic Charminar and Laad Bazaar are getting a makeover for the Miss World Heritage Walk scheduled for May 13. The area is being cleaned, decorated, and beautified to welcome the contestants, who are expected to walk through the stretch and experience the charm of the historic market.

Date palm trees have been planted near the Petlaburj and City College. The GHMC) is focusing on sanitation, patchwork repairs, road maintenance, and plantation work. “These places have heavy footfall, so our work is being done quickly and efficiently,” said a GHMC official who wishes not to be named.

Lighting arrangements are also underway. Special lanterns are being installed along the 300-metre stretch of Laad Bazaar, where the contestants will shop. “Due to heavy winds, we have chosen a safer lantern design to avoid any damage,” the official added. The lantern lighting is expected to be completed by Sunday night.

Security will be tighter and women police officers will be deployed to keep the contestants safe and protect their privacy, especially when they talk to the public. “The idea is to let the Miss World participants mingle with local people and enjoy the atmosphere without any disruption,” the official said.

Seven tourism buses did a trial run in Charminar on Sunday to check smooth travel and coordination. Women police constable did a trial walk in Laad Bazaar to check the smooth walkway for the contestant.
