Telangana DME bans leave for medical staff amid ‘war-like situation’

In response to an emerging ‘war-like situation’the Telangana Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr.A. Narendra Kumar issued a directive prohibiting all forms of leave for medical personnel working in institutions under its jurisdiction. The circular, issued on Thursday (May 8, 2025), was addressed toall Directors, Principals, and Superintendents of government medical institutions across the State.

The directive, marked as a measure of preparedness, mandates that no type of leave shall be sanctioned until further notice. In addition, hospital authorities have been instructed to ensure that adequate stock of essential drugs, listed under the Essential Medicines List (EML) and Additional Medicines List (AML) supplied by the Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC), is maintained at all times.

The hospitals have also been asked to promptly submit any requirements for additional drugs to the DME’s office.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday (May 7, 2025) issued directions to cancel leaves of employees on emergency duties. Also, instructions were issued to those planning foreign tours to drop them. He has also asked officials to stock adequate blood at blood banks.
