Miss World 2025: Pageant kicks off in Hyderabad with grand celebrations

The 72nd edition of the Miss World 2025 was inaugurated in a grand and colourful ceremony at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, with Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy officially declaring the event open.

More than 110 contestants from across the globe are participating in this prestigious event, and Miss India Nandini Gupta is representing the host nation.

The opening ceremony beautifully showcased the rich culture and heritage of Telangana.

The event began with a soulful rendition of the state anthem ‘Jaya Jaya He Telangana,’  penned by poet Ande Sri. A stunning Perini dance performance by 250 artists mesmerised the audience, bringing the state’s traditional art forms to the centre stage.

The event witnessed participation from contestants representing more than 110 countries, many of whom donned traditional attire symbolizing their countries’ culture and identity.

Contestants from Latin American and 22 African nations stood out with their vibrant native costumes, adding a truly global flavour to the celebration.

Due to current border tensions with Pakistan, strict security measures have been put in place in the city.

The pageant will run for 22 days, from May 13 to May 31, with various events planned throughout.

Hyderabad is hosting the Miss World competition for the first time, and several prominent personalities, including  Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Jitender, Tourism Department Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, Hyderabad Mayor Vijayalakshmi, Miss World CEO Julia Morley, and reigning Miss World 2024 Krystyna Pyszková graced the function.

India is hosting the pageant for the third time. Contestants from around 120 countries are participating in the event.

Earlier, the state government had given a warm welcome to contestants at the airport with a complete display of Telangana’s rich cultural traditions.

The grand finale of Miss World 2025 will be held on June 1 at HITEX Exhibition Centre.

Earlier,  Telangana Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that this year’s Miss World Pageant will not only celebrate beauty and talent but also promote the state on a global stage.
