Tata Motors has registered a 10.7 percent YoY (year-on-year) decline in the electric vehicle (EV) sales for the financial year 2025. The carmaker managed to sell nearly 57,616 units as opposed to 64,530 units during the corresponding month last year. While Tata retained the top position in the EV space with 55.4 percent market share, this marks a significant drop from its earlier 80 percent share.
Why EV Sales Declined?
Multiple factors have contributed to the sales decline, including the tough competition from JSW MG Motor (with Windsor-like offering), the discontinuation of the FAME-II subsidy and challenges in fleet operations. Currently, Tata’s EV product portfolio comprises five models – the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curvv EV.

Tata’s Future EV Plan:
Aiming to strengthen its position in the EV market, Tata Motors is gearing up to launch two new electric SUVs – the Harrier EV and Sierra EV. Additionally, the company plans to upgrade its existing models through midlife updates, generation changes and special editions. The Tata Harrier EV is all set to hit showrooms in June 2025, while the Tata Sierra EV is slated to arrive near around this year’s festive season.
Tata Harrier EV
Based on Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev platform, the Harrier EV will come with AWD system and offer a maximum torque of 500Nm. While its battery, power and range figures are yet to be revealed, the EV is expected to offer a range of over 500km. The overall design and interior of the Tata Harrier EV will be quite similar to that of its ICE counterpart, expect for a few EV-specific elements.
Tata Sierra EV
The Tata Sierra will be introduced with three powertrain options – petrol, diesel and electric. The electric version is expected be offered with multiple battery packs and a FWD (front-wheel drive) setup. The EV is likely to be offered with 4-seats lounge configuration, featuring an ottoman function for the rear seats. The production-ready Sierra has retained several design cues from its concept version.
