Nizamabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy fulfilled his promise by sanctioning Indiramma houses for two houseless poor families in Chinna Mallareddy village of Kamareddy district on Thursday. Construction work began for the homes of Bhiknoor Laxmi and Chityala Rajamani, bringing hope and relief to the families.
During the Hath se Hath Jodo padayatra on March 18, 2023, when he was TPCC president, Revanth Reddy visited Chinna Mallareddy village. The two women shared their hardships, revealing that their homes were damaged by untimely rains. Responding to their plight, Revanth Reddy assured that the Congress government, once in power, would build pucca houses for both.
Government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir inaugurated the works in the presence of villagers. He explained that due to the election code of conduct, the works had been delayed. Shabbir Ali reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to fulfilling its poll promises by supporting poor families across Telangana.
The Chief Minister had sanctioned the houses in January 2023 and personally took special interest in ensuring the welfare of these families, said Shabbir Ali. About 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses have been sanctioned statewide, allocating roughly 3,500 houses per Assembly constituency as part of the Congress government’s six poll promises, he explained.
Besides housing, the government has introduced schemes beyond its poll promises. These include free RTC bus travel, subsidised LPG cylinders at Rs.500, a Rs.2-lakh crop loan waiver and 200 units of free electricity, all of which have improved the lives of poor families. Additionally, the timely distribution of welfare cheques under Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, Arogyasri and CMRF schemes has boosted public morale, Shabbir Ali averred.
He also criticised former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and his family members for opposing the welfare programmes. He accused the BRS chief of damaging Telangana’s finances while prioritising his family’s interests. In contrast, the Congress government is working hard for the upliftment of the people rather than personal gains, he said.
