The A.P. Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (A.P. Chambers) on Saturday (May 17) wrote to Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu, requesting him to improve direct international connectivity to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati airports.
A.P. Chambers oresident Potluri Bhaskara Rao said that though the airports have international status and adequate infrastructure to handle large aircraft, they lacked direct connectivity to major international destinations.
Vijayawada has witnessed a significant rise in economic activity and a spurt in air travel due to its proximity to Amaravati, where construction has resumed. Therefore, direct flights should be introduced between Vijayawada and Dubai, Singapore and other cities.
He also sought improved international air connectivity from Visakhapatnam and Tirupati as well. Being the State’s largest, Visakhapatnam airport should be improved to meet the burgeoning demand for flights to cities such as Dubai and other cities abroad.
Tirupati has several major industries and reputable educational and other institutions, besides being a renowned pilgrimage centre. Better flight connectivity to Tirupati would increase the number of international visitors to the city, he pointed out.
