Police intensify search for absconding Kakani

Vijayawada: Nellore police intensified their search operations for YSRCP leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy in connection with the illegal quartz mining case. Following the dismissal of his anticipatory bail petition by the Supreme Court, Kakani’s arrest now appears imminent. Nellore district superintendent of police (SP) Krishnakanth deployed seven teams across the state, and also in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, to trace the absconding leader. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao was also roped in to lead the operations.SP Krishnakanth told TOI that Kakani was evading police summons for the last two months. He reportedly stayed at various locations, including properties owned by friends and relatives in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Police conducted searches at several of these properties, including farmhouses and guest houses. In Bengaluru alone, two teams led by Nellore Rural DSP Srinivas, launched large-scale operations. It is believed that Kakani took shelter for a time at properties belonging to a retired IRS officer, prompting searches there as well.In Hyderabad, two more police teams are actively searching for the former minister. Kakani allegedly obstructed the investigation at every step and issued threats to witnesses involved in the case. Despite repeated notices, he failed to appear for questioning. Police said his evasion and actions only strengthened the case against him. The quartz case involves financial irregularities and land-related scams, and Kakani was named as Accused No. 4. Police already issued notices to 12 other individuals linked to the case, including Kakani’s son-in-law.So far, three accused have been arrested in the case. Among the suspects is a woman named Supraja, in whose bank account monetary transactions amounting to crores of rupees were discovered.
