Hyderabad Fire Accident News: As many as 17 people were killed in a massive fire that broke out near Charminar in Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday.

“All 17 people died of asphyxiation,” said a senior police officer who was part of the rescue operation. While eight had suffered burn injuries, the main cause of death was inhalation of smoke, officials said.

The deceased included prahlad (70), Munni (70), Rajendar Modi (65), Smutra (60), Sheetal (35), Varsha (35), Pankaj (36), Rajini (32). Eight Children, Hamey (7), iddu (4), Rishab (4), Priyansh (4), anuyan (3), Arushi (3), Iraj (2), and pratham (1), Were Also Killed in the Fire.

The fire broke out in a jewellery store adjacent to Charminar. According to fire officials, the fire originated in the ground floor of the three-storey building which housed the jewellery store. A short circuit is believed to have caused the fire, according to the preliminary investigation.

As many as 70 firefighters were deployed at the spot, and it took a total of two hours to control the fire, a senior fire officer told The Indian Express.

Responding to the incident, Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao wrote, “Extremely shocked and pained!! Details emerging out of Gulzar House fire tragedy in Old City are very sad. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the tragedy. Wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. Hoping and praying that this fire will be contained very soon”. Meanwhile, BJP state president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy claimed the number of casualties rose because fire tenders were late to reach the spot.

However, according to senior fire officials, fire tenders had reached the spot “within 15 minutes of the incident getting reported”. The fire alert was received at 6.17 am on Sunday.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the incident. The CM instructed top officials to take all necessary measures to save those who are trapped. “The Chief Minister issued orders to shift the injured to nearby hospitals and provide better medical treatment,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s office read. The statement also said that the CM spoke to minister Ponnam Prabhakar about the fire incident “and ordered to intensify rescue operations”. “He also enquired about the steps being taken for rescue and relief operations by the Police and Fire Service wings,” the statement read. It also said “CM Revanth Reddy expressed condolences to the victim families on the phone and assured them of all assistance from the government”.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PM Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on X, “Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in HyderabadTelangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.”
