The Karimnagar railway station has undergone a complete makeover featuring modern passenger amenities, said Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay.

An amount of ₹33.3 crore has been spent for the modernisation of Karimnagar railway station under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate 102 railway stations, redeveloped under ABSS across the country, in a virtual mode on May 22.

Among them, Karimnagar is one of the three railway stations (Begumpet, Warangal and Karimnagar) from Telangana, he noted.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the redeveloped Karimnagar railway station on Sunday evening, Mr. Sanjay said the Jammikunta railway station will also be modernized soon.

He said, “Modernisation works are ongoing at 40 railway stations in Telangana with an outlay of ₹2,000 crore. In Karimnagar, two MMTS platforms, escalators, foot-over-bridges, AC waiting halls, food courts and other facilities have been developed under ABSS.”

He maintained that over ₹32,940 crore has been spent on railway development in Telangana. “In this year alone, ₹5,336 crore has been allocated. The Secunderabad and Nampally railway stations in the State capital are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹750 crore and ₹350 crore respectively. ₹1.5 lakh crore has been spent on development of National Highways in Telangana,” he said.

Taking a dig at Congress and BRS leaders over their criticism of the Centre, he said these development works speak for themselves. “We are ready to release a white paper on how much funds have been allocated by the Centre for the development of Telangana,” he asserted.

Mr. Sanjay said work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Teegalaguttapalli in Karimnagar will be expedited to complete the ROB within the stipulated time.

Expressing displeasure over the tardy progress of the ROB works at Uppal in Jammikunta mandal, he said directions have been issued to the contractors concerned to complete the single-line works by June this year.

He condoled the death of 17 persons in a tragic incident at Gulzar Houz in Hyderabad and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded immediately and announced assistance.
