The American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Guntur has successfully treated a rare and complex case of Myasthenia Gravis associated with Thymoma in a 61-year-old patient, Vattivela Adinarayana. The patient presented with classic symptoms of drooping eyelids and difficulty swallowing — hallmark indicators of the autoimmune disorder.

Dr Phanindra Kumar Nagisetty, Consultant Surgical Oncologist
The AOI team diagnosed the condition and performed a Right Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) Thymectomy — a minimally invasive procedure targeting the tumor located in the thymus gland, which lies behind the breastbone. The surgery was led by Dr Phanindra Kumar Nagisetty, Surgical Oncologist at AOI Guntur.
Dr Nagisetty explained, “Myasthenia Gravis with Thymoma is a rare and intricate disorder. Through VATS Thymectomy, we were able to precisely remove the tumor while ensuring a smoother, quicker recovery for the patient.”
Harish Trivedi, CEO of CTSI–South Asia, highlighted the significance of the procedure: “This case reinforces AOI’s mission to offer world-class, patient-centric care. Our multidisciplinary approach and cutting-edge technology continue to deliver outstanding outcomes in complex conditions.”
Echoing the sentiment, Mahendra Reddy, RCOO of AOI Andhra Pradesh Region, said, “We are committed to expanding access to advanced medical care across the state. This successful outcome is a testament to our expertise and dedication to patients in Guntur and beyond.”
Post-surgery, the patient has shown marked improvement under AOI’s supervision. The institute continues to stand at the forefront of advanced oncology care in Andhra Pradesh, offering both medical excellence and compassionate support.
