That said – I’m still debating whether to go 14″ or 15”.14″ Bundts are VIN-correct and more affordable (around 50K for a set)But Michelin tyres – also part of the original spec – aren’t available in 14″ anymore15″ replicas would allow me to run proper Michelin rubber again and improve the driving feelBut the landed cost of the wheels is around 2.25 lakh, which feels hard to justifyStill debating it – open to thoughts from the purists and the practicalists!Mechanical ProgressEngine, gearbox, and suspension rebuilds are in full swingAll bushes, dampers, steering and suspension linkages have been replacedSuspension and steering components are being properly painted and finishedEvery nut, bolt, bracket and washer is being zinc plated to factory specWe’re not aiming for “decent” – we’re working to ensure this will be the most detail-accurate W123 restoration in the countryOne Unexpected SetbackDuring teardown, we found that one of the crankshaft lobes was slightly bent. We’ve ordered a brand new OEM crankshaft – now en route.TimelineAll pending parts from across the world are expected to arrive in Mumbai by mid-JuneMechanical reassembly (engine, suspension, drivetrain) will followThen we move into cosmetics, trim detailing, and final tuningIf all goes to plan, we’re hoping to have her on the road by end-July or early AugustThese aren’t glamour shots – just raw, greasy glimpses into the mechanical side of the build.
