Continuous Rain Brings Down Mercury In AP


Visakhapatnam:Continuous rainfall in recent days brought down the temperature in Rayalaseema and parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.

An IMD report said parts of the Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh regions in the state received moderate to heavy rainfall on Sunday night and Monday morning, offering residents some respite from the recent spell of humidity.

Ongole registered a drop of 12.2 degrees Celsius with a maximum temperature of 27.9 degrees on Monday. Kavali recorded an 8.2 drop and recorded 30.6 degrees, Nandyal with a drop of 8.3 degrees recorded 32 degrees Celsius and Kurnool recorded a departure of 8.5 degrees, registering a maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius.

The report also forecast that isolated places over Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Sri Sathya Sai, Anantapur, Kurnool and Nandyal districts would experience heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Anantapur, Annamayya, Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Kurnool and Nandyal on Wednesday.

During the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Monday, Kavali in Nellore district and Palamaner in Chittoor district received 7cm of rainfall each, followed by 5cm each in Kandukur (Nellore) and Tanakal (Sri Sathya Sai) and 4cm each in Atmakur (Nellore), Ongole and Podili (Prakasam) and Pattikonda (Kurnool).

As per an IMD Amaravati report, Jangamaheswarapuram was the hottest in the state on Monday with 37 degrees Celsius, followed by Tuni (36.4°C), Nandigama (36°C), while it was 35°C each in Visakhapatnam (Airport) and Amaravati. Gannavaram recorded 35.3°C and Kadapa 34.8°C. Ongole was the coolest place in the state on Monday with 27.9°C.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon may hit the Kerala coast earlier than predicted by the IMD, given its fast progress. IMD said the southwest monsoon further advanced over some more parts of the south Arabian Sea, the Maldives and Comorin area, the South Bay of Bengal, some more parts of central Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal on Monday.

Conditions are favorable for further advancement of southwest monsoon over more parts of south Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area, some more parts of South Bay of Bengal; some more parts of central Bay of Bengal, and some more parts of northeast Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.
