The receipt said it was the correct size, so I went ahead with the build and even logged ~200 km on it.

Always check the frame/bike thoroughly, even if it’s brand new
Funny incident with my Ti frame. Turns out the frame was a size smaller than what was ordered – and I built it up without realizing!
I ordered size M/L which is equivalent to size 56 of most other brands. Instead, I was sent size M which equals 54. The receipt said it was M/L so I went ahead with the build and even logged close to 200 kms on it before realizing something was “off” with it.
The giveaways were:
- Somewhat cramped position when holding the drops of the handlebar and unusually upright sitting when holding the top portion of the bars
- My 350mm seatpost was barely a couple of millimeters above the minimum insertion point
There are no sizing stickers on the frame. In fact, I had to check with customer care if there is any size marker on the frame. The reply came yes, it’s under the bottom bracket shell, which was conveniently hidden under all the cables:
Anyway, the customer care accepted their fault and sent a brand new frame in the correct size this time, along with some free upgrades, namely sky blue anodized Lynskey badge and anodized logo on the downtube in sky blue too (instead of stickers). The end result is nearly bare Ti look. Very subtle.
Look at the difference between size M and ML:
Since the cables are all externally routed, it was an easy lift and shift operation. Once the new frame came, I dismantled my M-sized bike and moved everything to the new one in a couple of hours.
End result below. Notice the reduced number of spacers below the stem, compensated by a tall headtube:
