Yellow alert for rain in all districts of Telangana, monsoon onset in a fortnight | Hyderabad News

India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issued a yellow alert (be aware) for all districts in Telangana on Wednesday and said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places in all the districts, while the conditions will largely remain the same until Saturday.

As per the IMD, state capital Hyderabad is likely to experience a partly cloudy sky, and light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds. “Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. Surface winds are likely to be easterlies/southeasterlies,” said a weather bulletin. According to the IMD, the conditions are favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala in the next four to five days.

“There will be rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Thunderstorms with heavy rain are likely across south and southeastern Telangana, and Hyderabad city will also get showers. These are pre-monsoon showers as a low-pressure system is already present in coastal Karnataka and Kerala. This will last for two to three days,” an IMD scientist told indianexpress.com.

“After that, the monsoon current will be revived. Today, IMD will announce when the southwest monsoon will reach Kerala. It will take seven to eight days for the southwest monsoon to travel from the Kerala coast to southern Telangana. Another four to five days, it will cover central Telangana,” the official added.

The weather scientists have predicted a normal monsoon for the entire state of Telangana, as good monsoon conditions are predicted for central India. The state can expect normal rainfall as it sits on the Deccan plateau.
