2 brothers with foreign law degree held in Hyderabad for drug peddling, attack cop to evade arrest | Hyderabad News

Three individuals, including two brothers with high-end foreign education and their accomplice, were arrested in Hyderabad on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking. The accused attempted to evade arrest by attacking a female sub-inspector of the Special Task Force (STF), Excise Police said.

According to a statement, brothers Varun and Prabhu Chaitanya, who were arrested, had pursued higher education, including a barrister degree in London, and reportedly chose to engage in drug and ganja trafficking through the connections forged abroad. The third person to be arrested was their accomplice, Kiran.

Authorities seized 2.58 grams of MDMA drugs and 38.56 grams of OG Kush from the accused and confiscated one bike and three mobile phones.

The brothers’ friendships with Nigerian individuals, established during their time overseas, are said to have drawn them into the drug trade, said an Excise officer.

Investigators said the brothers frequently travelled to Bengaluru, where they sourced drugs like MDMA and OG Kush from Nigerian contacts, brought the contraband to Hyderabad, and with the help of accomplices, sold them to make money. They lived lavish lifestyles, enjoying “raja saab” like parties, unaware that their illicit activities were under the radar of the STF Excise Police.

Festive offer

When confronted by the STF team while selling MDMA drugs and OG Kush, the accused were caught off guard. Fearing the loss of their reputation and dignity due to their prominent educational background and standing, Varun and Prabhu Chaitanya, along with Kiran, resisted arrest. The accused attempted to escape by assaulting STF female Sub-Inspector Sandhya and another constable.

They quickly regrouped and, through collective effort, successfully apprehended all the culprits and registered a case, said police.

In addition to Varun, Prabhu Chaitanya, and Kiran, cases have also been registered against Vamshi, Sai Krishna, and Nandu Sai, who are currently absconding, as informed by STF officials.

STF team leader Pradeep Rao stated that they are keeping a close watch on the drug network in Bengaluru and will soon arrest the remaining individuals involved in the syndicate.
