A contractor in Hyderabad had to be talked down from a cell tower after climbing the structure in protest over unpaid wages.
As reported by Munsif Daily, the man, named only as Ramu, climbed the cell tower close to Kukatpally Police Station.
The man climbed the cell tower in protest over unpaid wages from a private engineering firm. He alleged that R&L Engineering Company had failed to clear a payment of Rs 8 lakh ($9,383).
However, the situation escalated further when the man threatened to cause harm to himself. He had a bottle of petrol with him.
“I will only come down if I am paid the Rs 8 lakh I am owed,” he told the police.
After an hour atop of the structure, police were able to talk Ramu down, and he was then taken into custody.
His allegations are being investigated by the authorities, noted the report.
It’s not the first case of someone climbing a cell tower in order to protest. Last year, a Belarusian man climbed up on a cell tower in Vilnius, Lithuania, to protest his proposed deportation to his home country.
While perched on the tower, the man hung Belarus’ historical flag, used by the country’s opposition against the government of President Alexander Lukashenko.
