Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu directed engineering officials to expedite desilting works in outfall drains and to mandatorily install mesh screens at the junctions where minor drains connect with outfall lines to prevent plastic and other waste material from entering the main system.

During an inspection of sanitation works in Santi Nagar, Ratnapuri Colony, and Mutyalareddy Nagar on Friday (May 23), the Commissioner issued specific instructions to officials. Responding to complaints from residents in Santi Nagar about sewage overflow into homes, he ordered immediate desilting of the affected outfall drains and installation of mesh to prevent solid waste from clogging the system.

Mr. Srinivasulu emphasized that 100% waste collection from allotted households by sanitation workers would reduce public littering on roads and in canals.

He urged field workers and ward secretaries to communicate daily waste collection schedules clearly to residents. Nodal officers were instructed to monitor attendance, field performance, and public feedback in their assigned areas regularly.

He also asked for reports on negligent sanitation officials and ward secretaries. While acknowledging efforts to install green mats and awareness banners against littering, he noted ongoing violations and ordered fines be imposed on offenders. Unauthorized ramps on drains that obstruct cleaning were to be removed, he directed.
