- Matt Hoeppner is the new head girls basketball coach at Clear Creek Amana High School.
- Hoeppner previously coached at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, West Liberty and Davenport North.
- He replaces PJ Sweeney, who led the Clippers to their first state title in 2024.
Matt Hoeppner has officially been named the new girls head basketball coach at Clear Creek Amana, the school confirmed to the Press-Citizen on May 22.
Hoeppner’s hiring was approved by the school board on May 21.
Hoeppner spent the last three seasons as the head girls basketball coach at Cedar Rapids Jefferson, where he compiled a 23-46 record.
“I am just excited to have the opportunity to continue the rich basketball tradition this community has had over the past few years,” Hoeppner told the Press-Citizen. “After meeting numerous people within the school and community, everyone has been very welcoming. The players are eager and excited to get started, as am I.”
Prior to Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Hoeppner was the head coach at West Liberty and compiled a 53-16 record during his tenure there. He also spent two seasons at the helm at Davenport North before he spent nine seasons as an assistant coach at Rock Island in Illinois.
He will now take over a role previously held by PJ Sweeney, who spent 11 years at the helm and won the program’s first state title in 2024. The Clippers finished with a 15-8 record last season.
“The one thing I have gathered from the ladies already is that they really want to correct things they felt that they were not as good at last season,” Hoeppner said. “When a team is eager to be better and wants to be pushed to improve, that is all a coach can ask. The future is bright at CCA, and I am just lucky to be a part of it.”
