Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TMK) aims to expand its hybrid and electric vehicle lineup with a new manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. This year, the Japanese automaker will introduce two major SUVs including the Toyota Fortuner MHEV (mild hybrid electric vehicle) and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. Let’s take a look the key highlights of these two upcoming Toyota SUVs.
Toyota Fortuner mhev
Toyota’s highly popular Fortuner SUV is likely to receive a mild hybrid powertrain in India in the coming months. However, there is no official word on its India launch timeline yet. The Toyota Fortuner mhev will come with a 2.8L diesel engine, paired with a 48V mild hybrid system. Its combined power and torque outputs stand at 201bhp and 500Nm, respectively.
The Fortuner MHEV is claimed to offer 5 percent better fuel efficiency than the standard diesel-powered Fortuner. This model will be offered with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
The Urban Cruiser EV was showcased in its concept avatar at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show. It’s essentially a re-badged Maruti e Vitara, featuring Toyota’s signature design elements inside and out. Similar to its donor model, the Urban Cruiser EV will be offered with two battery packs – 49kWh and 61kWh. The smaller battery pack offers a maximum power of 144bhp and 189Nm of torque, while the bigger battery is good enough for 174bhp and 189Nm.
The new Toyota electric SUV is built on a skateboard platform, measuring 4,285mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,640mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. In terms of features, the Urban Cruiser EV will offer a 10.1-inch infotainment system, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, single zone auto climate control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Level 2 ADAS, electronic parking brake with auto hold and more.
