Delhi Capitals Spoil PBKS Party, Top 2 Fight Wide Open

Delhi Capitals may be out of the IPL 2025 playoff race but they showed last night in Jaipur why they’re still a team to watch.

Chasing a 200+ score against a hot Punjab Kings side, DC pulled off a stunning 6 wicket win and threw the top 2 race wide open — again.

Now with PBKS, RCB, MI and GT all neck and neck, the battle for those top 2 spots will go down to the wire.

Punjab Kings came into the game with 17 points from 12 games, already in the playoffs and eyeing a top 2 finish — something they haven’t done in 11 years.

But Delhi had other plans. And suddenly PBKS are under pressure with 2 games left. A couple of wrong moves from here and their top 2 hopes could slip away… just like 2014.

This was more than just a league game. The earlier PBKS vs DC game in Dharamsala was abandoned after 10.1 overs due to a blackout caused by the military conflict between India and Pakistan.

The fallout led to a week long suspension of 4 overseas Punjab players — Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie and Kyle Jamieson. They joined the team just in time for this game hoping to boost PBKS but the rhythm wasn’t there.

Let this sink in:
2008 to 2024 — DC chased a 200+ score just once.
2025 — Already 2 successful 200+ chases.

And the latest one came thanks to a sensational knock by Sameer Rizvi who hammered 58 off just 25 balls* including 5 sixes.

He came in with pressure mounting and batted like a seasoned finisher. It was bold, clean and full of intent.

Rizvi’s rise has been brewing for a while but this might be his true arrival moment.

Despite the loss Shreyas Iyer is still making history. He’s the first ever captain to lead 3 different IPL franchises into the playoffs — Delhi in 2019 and 2020, KKR in 2023 and now PBKS in 2025.

He’s also having a stellar season personally, sitting second on the Orange Cap list with 435 runs from 12 games.Backed by Prabhsimran Singh (458 runs), Priyansh Arya (356 runs), Arshdeep Singh (11 wickets) and Yuzvendra Chahal (13 wickets) PBKS looked solid… until DC flipped the script.

It’s been a tough season for DC with poor powerplays and no Mitchell Starc in crunch moments.

But this win proves they’re not just showing up to complete fixtures — they’re here to be spoilers.

Their approach now? Carefree, fearless and focused on upsetting the big boys. And it’s working.

With this win Delhi have added fuel to the top 2 race. PBKS, RCB, MI, GT — all in it, all sweating and all waiting for the final round.

There’s still everything to play for and thanks to teams like DC every match now feels like a knockout.

Buckle up. The last leg of IPL 2025 is going to be wild ride.
