Heavy rain lashes parts of Hyd, more in store | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: The city experienced a sudden spell of heavy rain on Saturday evening, providing much-needed relief from the summer heat.Significant showers were witnessed in parts of the city, including the mandals of Kukatpally, Khairatabad, Quthbullapur, Serilingampally and Shaikpet.According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Kukatpally topped the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) rainfall chart with 25.3 mm of rain, followed by Borabanda (24.3 mm) and Quthbullapur (23.3 mm). Madhapur and Jubilee Hills also recorded over 22 mm, while other areas, including Khajaguda and Hyder Nagar, received between 19 and 21 mm. Several GHMC circles, including Moosapet, Gajularamaram and Serilingampally, also reported consistent rainfall, though mostly below 20 mm.The highest rainfall statewide was reported in Kethireddipalli in Ranga Reddy district, at 33.5 mm. Damaragidda in Narayanpet followed with 28.3 mm and Dhanora in Kumuram Bheem received 26.3 mm. Areas in Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nizamabad and Jagtial also reported over 20 mm of rainfall.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several Telangana districts. Heavy rainfall is highly likely in isolated areas of Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected in isolated areas across the whole state.Residents are advised to remain alert, to avoid open areas during lightning and to watch for updates from local authorities regarding weather conditions.
