Home away from home: Quality time with my family at our farmhouse

There is literally no civilization in radius of a couple of kilometers.

BHPian OffRoadFun recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

I thought of posting some updates on my Audi Q5 and the farm.

First, the room in the farm. The farm house/room has come up OK. It now serves our primary purpose of leisure. It really came handy when we had booked a resort on Kabini river and had to cancel at the very last moment due to floods. We just headed to our farm and family did not complain.

I got a picture at decent angle with the nearby mountains in the background.

There is literally no civilization in radius of a couple of kilometers.

Another one at night from the front:

Since now it has some semblance of civilization and we started visiting more often, we decided to get the room more organized. I asked my son to assemble a foldable closet bought online. Kept him busy for more than an hour.

Finally, the room had some semblance of order: My son also got a study table to study over the weekend.

The closet is at the left of the door.

Looking towards the kitchen.

The kids enjoyed taking shower in open with drip irrigation pipes with full pressure.

I also setup an inflatable pool to beat the heat, it was a lot of fun.

The evenings are reserved for hiking and visiting farms/planations. We got some good views nearby:

Nearby hill:

Closeup of a chameleon with nice camouflage, adjusted to surrounding color of granite!

Another one:

We also visited nearby red sanders plantation and liked it. Dreamt of having such dense (though man made) forest in our farm one day:

It was pretty meticulously managed:

As I had mentioned earlier hereI experienced sleeping out in open, in middle of nowhere.

In one of the visits, weather being a bit warm, I proposed the same idea to the whole family. And incredibly, they agreed!

Hey we survived the bears, the leopards, the snakes and the scorpions, apart from humans! Good morning!

Next evening, we went for hikes nearby and by the time we came back, it was raining heavily. We accidentally left a few windows open before leaving and by the time we came back, the beds were partially wet. We found a scorpion on the kitchen wall. The weather was mild because of rains. We got rid of it and as soon as finished dinner, the power went off and the rains intensified raining extremely heavily. Power went off and because of the galvanized aluminum roof, the sound of rains was enormous, deafening. My wife suggested leaving immediately to BLR as they were not sure if the roof will survive or not. I asked them to be patient. That rain was unusually heavy for that area.

Thankfully, we survived!

Next day, I observed a few strangers in my farm. Apparently, because of the heavy rains, local Cheruvu (lake) overflows and that water stream bisects our farm. The stream releases some catfish and these guys relish the fish!

The next night, I thought the family would like to move back to BLR, but they were courageous, they agreed to sleep out in open again after rains and scorpion incident of the last night!

Coming back to Audi, my Q5 went for second re-birth. I almost gave up on it.

But I decided to give it another chance. Yes, second rebuild. The reasons were I needed a powerful German car for my offroad rough use and what better than an old 2.0T Q5 (and my middle class bringing up which won’t allow me to splurge on a new German though my better half was keen on a new GLC!)

I will update this thread next on Q5 rebuild, some off-roading and some hiking adventure (I encountered a bear during hiking recently) and have been doing a few trip with my boy (boy’s picnic).
