The Women’s College World Series dreams that Texas and Clemson softball brought with them into the 2025 season now come down to a single game.
After splitting the first two games of their best-of-three series in the Austin Super Regional, the Tigers and the host Longhorns will square off for a decisive third game Saturday night in the 2025 NCAA tournament, with the winner advancing to Oklahoma City for the WCWS.
Texas, the tournament’s No. 6 seed, fought off elimination Friday night with a 7-5 victory in 10 innings against No. 11 seed Clemson, which had taken the first game of the series 7-4 on Thursday. Leighann Goode had a team-high three hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Longhorns in Friday’s win.
Texas is aiming to get back to the WCWS for the third time in the past four seasons, with the previous two trips both ending with losses in the championship series. Clemson, which began playing Division I softball only five years ago, is in the super regionals for the third time in four years and is trying to make it to the WCWS for the first time.
