BRS in turmoil, but Congress is strong: Jagga Reddy

TPCC working president and senior Congress leader T. Jagga Reddy has warned that the internal disputes of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will weaken the party and the real risk lies in its cadre drifting to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

At an informal chat with reporters here on Sunday, he accused the BJP of nurturing discontent in the BRS to gain political ground in the state, despite lacking a significant presence. “BJP, which has no real base here, is being given unnecessary strength through this infighting in the KCR household,” he felt.

Congress, he said, was sitting pretty, and there is no political threat to it from the current developments. “Congress remains strong in Telangana. Telangana voted for KCR after State formation, but now it’s Congress’s turn. In Telangana politics, Congress is first, BRS second, and BJP third. The current situation only confirms that.”

Remain vigilant

Mr. Jagga Reddy, however, called on Congress leadership to remain vigilant. There is no loss to Congress from Kavitha’s letter and if there is a need to admit BRS leaders into Congress in the changed scenario, CM A. Revanth Reddy and TPCC president Mahesh Goud will take a decision, he said.

On the public and media discourse surrounding Ms. Kavitha’s letters, he dismissed her influence, stating, “Kavitha is not a leader in herself. Whatever she has is because of KCR. She wants to move out of that shade for whatever reasons.”

However, Mr. Jagga Reddy said that there will be no BRS without KCR, and the released letter will surely harm the party. “Why Kavitha chose to go public has to be revealed by her or the BRS leadership, explaining their growing closeness to the BJP.”

KTR natural choice

He added that in Indian politics, “only sons carry the mantle forward and in BRS too, KTR will be the natural choice for KCR”.
