Hyderabad: The Congress leadership in New Delhi is likely to take a decision on cabinet expansion on Friday and has asked the top leaders from Telangana to meet AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi on May 30.Meanwhile, chief minister A Revanth Reddy concluded his three-day stay in New Delhi and returned to Hyderabad on Monday night. Initially, Revanth had travelled to the national capital to attend the NITI Aayog governing council meeting on Saturday. Extending his stay, Revanth, along with TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, met AICC general secretary KC Venugopal on Sunday. They discussed in detail the caste and district equations and other factors to be considered for cabinet expansion and the constitution of the new TPCC team.On Monday, Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with his family members, met Rahul Gandhi and urged him to finalise the cabinet expansion and the new TPCC team. The proposed team includes four working presidents, a jumbo committee of vice presidents, and general secretaries. Goud also requested that priority be given to leaders from the BC community for the six vacant cabinet positions.However, there was no confirmation whether Revanth Reddy met Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal on Monday. A senior AICC leader said that Venugopal had briefed Rahul Gandhi in detail about the names of aspirants, caste and district equations, and other factors that Revanth and Goud shared with him for the party high command to consider in finalising cabinet appointments and the new TPCC team.As Kharge was unavailable, and his approval is mandatory for the crucial cabinet expansion and posts of working presidents, a meeting with him has been scheduled for May 30 in the national capital.After meeting Rahul Gandhi, Mahesh Goud told reporters that the announcement of the new TPCC team before May 30 could not be ruled out. “We have urged the AICC leaders to announce the new TPCC team in a day or two. The party high command will decide whether to announce the new team before or after the meeting with Kharge on Friday,” he added.
