Complex Surgeries At GGH Save Two Lives

Kurnool: Doctors at Kurnool Government General Hospital successfully performed life-saving surgeries on two patients suffering from portal hypertension. Hospital superintendent Dr K. Venkateswarlu stated that the surgeries were carried out on 15-year-old Elisha Rani and 29-year-old Parveen, both diagnosed with the condition.

Elisha Rani, a resident of Pamulapadu, was admitted with symptoms of blood vomiting. Upon examination, she was found to have portal hypertension with esophageal varices. Her haemoglobin level was just 6 grams, and her platelet count was 60,000. Doctors first performed endoscopic band ligation, followed by surgery. As a result, her platelet count significantly improved, rising to 5 lakhs.

Further, Parveen, a 29-year-old from Balavenkatapuram in Anantapur district, arrived at the hospital with uterine bleeding, another symptom of portal hypertension. Endoscopy revealed esophageal varices, and she too underwent band ligation. Further examination revealed large collaterals and a portal cavernoma. Her platelet count, which was initially 50,000, rose to 4 lakhs after the surgery. Dr Venkateswarlu appreciated the surgical team for their efforts in successfully managing the complex cases and saving both patients’ lives.
