A special team of the Cuddalore police, which camped in Andhra Pradesh, arrested three persons, who were allegedly involved in smuggling, supplying and selling ganja with their accomplices in Tamil Nadu.
Following the arrest of four accused in Cuddalore New Town on May 21, Cuddalore district Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar formed a special team to nab the main suppliers and peddlers who had smuggled the contraband in to the district.
Based on the confession of the accused, the special team which was camping in Vijayawada secured three persons at the Vijayawada railway station on Monday. The accused were identified as G. Sai Ganesh alias Chakravarthy, 20, of Anakapalle in Andhra Pradesh and Akash alias Avinash, 21, and Rosy alias Aravaind, 19 of Chinnapillayarmedu in Cuddalore district.
The team recovered 21 kg of ganja from their possession and brought them to Cuddalore. They were produced before a local court and remanded to custody.
Mr. Jeyakumar said that an intensive drive against ganja carried out by the district police over the past four months had resulted in the seizure of 141 kg of ganja and arrest of 176 persons. As many as 69 cases were registered and 12 accused were detained under the Goondas Act.
