A man was killed and another seriously injured in a brutal sword attack in Kambodi Kalpane, Bantwal, Dakshina Kannada district, Mangaluru, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Rehmaan, who served as the Secretary of a local mosque and was also a member of the South Kannada Sunni Students Federation. His companion, Kalandar Shafi, sustained critical injuries and is currently battling for his life, police officials confirmed.
This is the second violent incident reported in Mangaluru within a month. On May 20, Noushad, the prime accused in the murder of Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty, was attacked inside the Mangaluru District Jail. The assault occurred during a clash in the prison’s quarantine cell section.
Police are investigating the motive behind the sword attack and have intensified security in the region given the recurring violent episodes. Authorities are yet to confirm if Tuesday’s assault is connected to any previous incidents. The community remains tense as residents and leaders call for swift action and justice.
