Nandyal and Kurnool district administrations have sounded an alert following heavy rain forecast in the coming days to the two districts.
Nandyal District Collector Rajakumari Gania asked officials to be alert in view of heavy rainfall forecast due to the advancing monsoon. She said the district might receive heavy rains coupled with lightning and strong winds and asked officials to be on an alert. Ms. Rajakumari said there is a possibility of snapping of electric lines and collapsing of old buildings and directed officials concerned to take steps to prevent loss of lives by alerting people living in vulnerable places.
She directed the officials to take precautionary measures to prevent possible spread of seasonal diseases during the rains. She wanted officials to clear the garbage accumulated in villages and keep the environs clean.
Kurnool District Collector P. Ranjith Basha said the Met department predicted heavy rains in the next three days and asked officials to be on an alert. He directed all the department officials to maintain alert to avoid loss of life to lives and property in the eventuality of heavy rains.
Mr. Ranjith Basha asked the Agriculture and Horticulture department officials to keep the farmers informed about the rain alerts and ask them to take precautionary measures to avoid crop losses.
The Collector urged the people not to stay in old and dilapidated buildings and under trees and hoardings during heavy rains. He asked people not to cross streams, canals or overflowing tanks when the water bodies are in spate.
