Kia India recently launched the Carnival key premium MPV at an attractive price point of Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will soon be followed by its electric version, which has been on test for a while now. While the official launch date of the Kia Carens Clavis EV is yet to be announced, the model is likely to go on sale in the next couple of months.
Pricing & Competition:
In terms of pricing and positioning, this new Kia 7-seater family electric car won’t have any direct rivals. However, it’s expected to impact sales of the MG Windsor EV, BYD eMax7, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv and Mahindra BE6 and XEV 9e. The prices of the Kia Carens EV are expected to start around Rs 16 lakh for the base variant.
Expected Powertrains:
The latest spy images reveal that the Kia Carens Clavis EV will feature a charging port at the front similar to what we have seen on the Creta Electric. As of now, there is no official word on its powertrain details. However, the new Kia 7-seater family electric car is expected to come with the 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery pack options, borrowed from the Creta EV. As per the MIDC cycle, both batteries offer a claimed range of 390km and 473km respectively.
ADAS & Safety Features:
The spied test mule also has an ADAS radar module, fitted at the centre of the front facia. The suite is likely to offer safety features such as forward collision warnings, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention warning, high beam assist and more. The safety kit of the EV might also consist of a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, dual dashcam setup, all-wheel disc brakes, 6 airbags, vehicle stability control, electronic stability control and more.
Carens vs. Carens EV – Differences & Similarities
The Kia Carens EV is likely to support V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging functionalities. The interior layout and features of the EV are expected to identical to its ICE counterpart. Minimal changes will be made to its exterior. Unlike the ICE-powered Carens Clavis, the electric version will feature an LED DRL (daytime running light) and newly-designed alloy wheels along with other subtle EV-specific design elements.
