Hyderabad: Acting on grievances received through its Prajavani platform, HYDRAA has reclaimed encroached public spaces, worth 40 crore, in Maitreya Nagar and Ghatkesar. A one-acre park land was illegally occupied and converted into residential plots. Despite multiple court rulings confirming the land as designated park space, the encroacher continued efforts to sell plots, much to the dismay of local residents.Over time, the neglected plot became overrun with thorny bushes and makeshift sheds, turning it into a breeding ground for snakes and other pests. Residents reported that snakes started entering nearby homes, making the area unsafe, particularly for children. In their complaint to HYDRAA, residents highlighted that the park, mentioned in the original layout plan, was essential for community well-being.Responding to the complaint, the officials cleared the overgrowth and illegal structures on the site, restoring the park to public access. In a separate operation in Ghatkesar, HYDRAA officials removed illegal constructions obstructing public roads in Jayapuri Colony, located adjacent to the Outer Ring Road. The colony, laid out in 1968, saw its internal roads gradually encroached upon by a few individuals who falsely claimed ownership of public land. These individuals produced fraudulent land passbooks, presenting the area as agricultural land, and proceeded to build compound walls across designated public roads.Following complaints from some plot owners, revenue authorities cancelled the bogus documents. However, the encroachments remained. Acting on instructions from commissioner AV Ranganath, the agency inspected the site and, on Wednesday, demolished the illegal walls that were obstructing thoroughfares. The clearance has now restored road connectivity and ensured proper access to the colony’s residents.
