No relief for Gali, others as 3 vacation court judges refuse to take up bail plea

Hyderabad: Mining case convicts Karnataka former minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and three others on Wednesday again failed to get the vacation court to hear their bail plea, which pointed out that the matter had to be heard at length and, hence, must be taken up by a regular bench after the court vacation. Last week too a vacation court had refused to grant them any interim relief without first hearing the CBI in the matter. Gali and others have argued that as they have been sentenced to only seven years, they are entitled to suspension of sentence and bail during the pendency of their appeal against conviction. On Wednesday, their bail plea went to three judges but all three declined to hear it. The matter first came up before Justice K Sharath, who refused to hear it. Next, it went before Justice Alishetty Lakshminarayana, who also refused to take it up. Both did not cite any reason. Then, at around 7;30 pm, the pleas came up before Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka. He said the matter needed to be heard at length and cannot be completed by a vacation court at the last minute. He moved the case to June for posting before a regular court once the HC reopens after the summer vacation. Along with Gali, others seeking bail are Obulapuram Mining Company MD BV Srinivas Reddy, AP mines and geology wing former director VD Rajagopal, and Gali Janardhan’s PA Mehfuz Ali Khan. All were convicted by a special CBI Court and sentenced to seven years’ jail.
