Toyota Fortuner mhev

The Toyota Fortuner mhev (mild hybrid electric vehicle) is likely to hit roads in the coming months. However, there is no official word on the same. The hybrid version of the SUV will come with a 2.8L diesel engine, paired with a 48V mild hybrid system and ISG (integrated starter generator). This configuration delivers a maximum power of 201bhp and a peak torque of 500Nm. Compared to the diesel-powered Fortuner, the hybrid version will be more fuel efficient.

Mahindra Xev 7e

Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to launch the electric iteration of the XUV700, called Mahindra Xev 7e. It will be third INGLO-based electric SUV from the home-grown automaker in India. It’s likely to share its design elements, features and powertrains with the XEV 9e. This means, it will come with a 59kWh and 79kWh battery pack options, delivering a claimed range of 556km and 682km, respectively.

Renault Boreal

Next in our list of the upcoming family SUVs is Renault’s Borealwhich will make its global debut in the coming months. Its market launch, however, is likely to happen in the second half of 2026. The Boreal will borrow powertrain from the new Duster, which is expected to be offered with the mild and strong hybrid powertrain options. Globally, this new SUV will also be offered with a 167bhp, 1.3L turbo petrol engine.

Hyundai Ni1i SUV

Hyundai Motor India is planning to launch a new premium 7-seater SUV sometime in 2027. Codenamed Hyundai Ni1ithis new SUV will be one of the brand’s first model to feature petrol-hybrid powertrain. The carmaker might use its globally available 1.6L petrol hybrid powertrain or use its 1.5L NA petrol engine with hybrid system. If reports are to be believed, the Ni1i could be based on the China-spec Tucson LWB, which is 4,680mm long and offers ample cabin space for all seats passengers.

Kia MQ4i SUV

The upcoming Kia 7-seater SUV (codenamed MQ4i) will mark the brand’s entry in the premium, full-size SUV segment. It will be the first Kia in India to feature a strong hybrid technology. The MQ4i will be based on the Kia Sorento, which is globally available with a 1.6L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol-hybrid powertrain. This setup generates a maximum power of 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. The new Kia family SUV is likely to derive some design cues and features from the Sorento.

Honda 7-Seater SUV

Honda Cars India has planned a range of new models including an all-new EV (coming in the next fiscal year), a three-row SUV, the new-generation City sedan and a subcompact SUV. The upcoming Honda 7-seater SUV will debut the brand’s new PF2 architecture, which will support both ICE and EV powertrains. Honda’s Japan and Thailand R&D centres will lead the design and development of the new SUV, with significant inputs from Honda India team. It could be offered with the Elevate’s 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a strong hybrid powertrain.
