BHPian reds14 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Hey BHPians! I thought I’d share a quick update on my experience so far with the BYD Sealion.Initial Impressions:The car has been an absolute joy to own. It’s a real head-turner – the design is sharp, aggressive, and definitely stands out on the road. Mine still has the factory-tinted glass, which really adds to the look. Interestingly, I’ve seen other Sealions in Hyderabad without it, so I’m guessing the initial batch was delivered as-is.Driving Experience:The driving dynamics are excellent. Power delivery is instant and addictive! I haven’t taken the car out of Hyderabad yet, but a few ORR runs have shown me what it’s capable of. With a light foot, I’ve been getting a range of 490-520 km, and with spirited driving, it still returns 350+ km. You can easily hit silly speeds if you’re not careful! One of the best parts about it being a CBU – no irritating speed chimes, which is a relief!Interiors & Comfort:Fit and finish are easily a notch above most rivals in this segment. The rear seat comfort is fantastic – can comfortably seat three healthy adults. Also appreciate the seatbelt reminders for all passengers, including rear seat occupants (though not everyone in the family is a fan of that!).Ownership So Far:Crossed 2,500 km.First service due at 3,000 km.Haven’t received a software update yet.App functionality isn’t available in India, which is disappointing – the dealer mentioned it’s due to data privacy issues.Still waiting for a quote on the extended warranty.BYD Sealion vs BMW iX1:I’d take the Sealion over the BMW iX1 any day. It offers a better battery, longer range, more space, and stronger performance. The only edge the iX1 has is badge value – if that’s a priority, then fair enough. But otherwise, the Sealion wins hands down on almost every front.Regarding the “Chinese car” concern:Yes, it’s a Chinese brand, and that seems to be a sticking point for some. Personally, I feel if we boycott everything made in China, there won’t be much left in our homes or garages. That said, I would absolutely choose an Indian-made EV if it matched the Sealion’s quality, features, and performance. Even the Mahindra twins use a BYD battery. Looking forward to taking it on a proper highway run soon – will share more updates post that! Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
